Men Wore Hats
By Jerry A. White

The other day I was looking at some pictures took back when I was a kid
And thought about the difference in the clothes we wore and the things we did

The men all had short haircuts, and long sleeve shirts
Most of the women’s hair was long and so was there skirts

The men wore there Levis, and khakis, and overalls proud
There wasn’t a pair of Bermuda shorts or an earring in the crowd

Some men wore high top leather shoes, others wore Wellington boots
No tennis shoes or sandals on these galloots

Most all the men wore hats, not necessarily western style
some had leather or wool caps, they wore once in a while

They used expressions like, "Gone like a wild goose in winter", "pull a Hank Snow",
"Making a killing", and "Boys let her go"

All the stores closed on Sunday, the Blue laws saw to that
Back when women wore dresses and a man wore a hat

Folks could rest on Sunday or worship as they please
We hadn’t heard of "love in’s" or AIDS disease

People were proud our boys in uniform, if you can picture that
When women wore dresses and a man wore a hat

It’s a different world now a days, we all dress different and that’s a fact
But, I still think a woman looks better in a dress, and a man looks better in a hat

I look back on fond memories of the 50’s
