In 1965 the St. Louis Regional
Foxtrotters was formed; to bring together a group of people with
a common interest in trail riding, and to promote this interest by
arranging trail rides suitable to the nature of fast moving horses
such as the Missouri Fox Trotter and other gaited types.
Also to provide owners who wish to show their horses
an opportunity to do so by providing club shows with consideration
given to other gaited horses.
Elmo Rosa formed the St. Louis Regional Foxtrotters
with the help of ten other individuals: Marion Close, John Corbett,
Don Crawford, Ray Johnson, Stan Kessler, Louise Loehr, George and
Donnie Reitz, Ann Schuerman, and Marinda Wichman. Stan Kessler was
elected the first President. The first trail ride was held at House
Springs, Missouri and the 1966 World Grand Champion, Golden Rawhide,
was in attendance.
Today, the St. Louis Regional Foxtrotters meet the
first Thursday of every month at 7:30 pm at the Gingham's Homestyle Restaurant in St. Louis, Missouri. The club owns fifteen stalls at the Missouri
Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association show grounds in Ava, Missouri,
and four box seats. It holds two horse shows each year and still
plans trail rides. Elmo Rosa is still a member and is proud of the
legacy of the St. Louis Regional Foxtrotters. Visitors and members are always welcome. Come and join us!
